hey there!
This is gingy. I am already adult but still fascinated by children's things such as Music boxes and dolls. i have a few barbie dolls or steffi dolls i bought lately. Then I have a lot of Music boxes from childhood and have found new ones. fascinating, Music boxes in the Change of time. I'd really love to have Music boxes from ancient times, those huge ones. I also make dolls myself, I sew or knit them. also dolls are quite fascinating as they also have changed in the time flow. earlier they could do nothing, later they could cry, wine or talk even. last year the first smart doll was presented. who else likes collecting stuff like that?

The 19th century isn't ancient time! LOL The music boxes you mean are of that vintage. cylinder boxes, and they are pricey.

Always wanted to see the inner workings of music boxes.

I was 11 or 12 this time when I did that. but where to get those cylinder Music boxes? I know they are pricey. and maybe you can Show me some of the Music boxes you have and I Show you mine. we could make a dropbox Folder.

Yeah, I was going to suggest posting sound clips. Reyami, describe them to us, please.

Because I've moved so often, I've had to shed a lot of things I used to enjoy collecting, music boxes among them. I don't have any, at the moment, but I used to have one that resembled a 1930s style radio, and it played two tunes which I never could identify. One upbeat, and one in a lovely minor key. I wish I'd kept that one.

Did anyone have the Plush Snoopy with the tape player built into the tummy? It came with its own Snoopy and Charlie Brown tapes.

on this site though you cannot purchase such boxes can you?

Post 11 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 10-Feb-2016 10:06:22

If I was going to collect a child's item it would be those hot wheels matchbox cars from the 70s and early 80s. Those were tons of fun as kids. Everyone had them, it seems, regardless of demographic. Fun stuff.

Post 12 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Wednesday, 10-Feb-2016 15:31:54

The site doesn't sell them. Check Ebay or antique shops or other such places.

Send me a bucket of Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs for my birthday, please. LOL

VioletBlue, my Wife gave me wooden blocks in my stocking this Christmas, multiple shapes and all that. They're now saying that just fiddling around with such things, like your Lincoln logs and tinker toys, or blocks, or legos, you activate the same stuff in the brain that meditating does. I am no more a successful meditator than I ever was successful in Christian prayer and such things. My mind always wanders, and I've actually come up with a great many solutions as a direct result of a wandering mind. Solutions that have resulted in fixes to technical problems / a paycheck for the family to feed off of.
So, play with your blocks / what have you, let your mind wander, you get the same benefits in the brain that meditating spiritual types like my daughter does.
After work many days if i'm not attempting to blow on the didgeridoo when nobody's around, then I just dump the blocks out on the table and put together a few geometric structures. Sure, when you first get them, you build everything you know: a car, a house, a tower or several. But I find the more I do things, the more I make varying geometric structures. I don't have a whole ton at this point. And certainly something like legos would let you do more.

Anyhow, you've got a great idea with either of those two sets, Lincoln logs or tinker toys. The former I remember well, the latter not so much.

Thanks, Leo! Very interesting; it makes a lot of sense, actually. I think I will get something to play/relax with, and won't feel so silly about it.

Theres also some sort of puzzle type thing that you apparently twist into different geometric shapes, and I've had my eye on it for a while, too.

i have some clementoni Little Einstein. These are very small Stones with two nobs and two wholes to put them together. you can make lots of funny stuf with them. I often do it. you can make even circles, stars, small slender dolls which can moove arms and legs it is just amazing

Post 17 by ADVOCATOR! (Finally getting on board!) on Friday, 12-Feb-2016 7:35:32

I remember how I loved to build with lock-blocks. They were similar to, but not Legos. I would love Legos, or just fun cars and stuff to play with.
Blessings,
Sarah

Post 19 by Gingy (the musical gingy with the loads of music boxes) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2016 3:03:06

well, my 2 beautiful Girls have arrived. the antique sankyo doll is a very realistic small slender woman dancing on a platform which is oval shaped but the Thing was somehow broken. the platform is dammaged. i got a refund of 5 Pounds which is 6 euros . three days ago a small parcel from Canada arrived. the doll with the polish traditional clothing arrived. I named her jagodka. (pron. yagodka) butt as I tried to get her out of the parcel I Held the head in my Hand.
so i wrote a not so friendly message to the shop owner. she refunded me but the damage was repairable i gave it to Nicole. she is the Girl of my household helper. she managed to Change the whole inlife and fix the head back :)

I have and love Legos. *smile* I used to collect different sets mainly for the unique pieces they had; it can make for some interesting features to add to buildings, vehicles, or whatever else. I would still collect more sets, but I just haven't done so in awhile. I think it is fun and relaxing to creat various things.
I also have a magnetic set that has a bunch of balls, rods, and flat triangular pieces. It is rusted right now though because I think some water got inside the case. I don't know if it can be fixed, but if not, I'd totally be willing to purchase another set like that when I can.
Also, I like drawing and/or coloring. I used to have one of those larger sets of scented crayons, but I dont know what ever happened to them. I do have some scented markers though, and I have a textured drawing board where you can put a paper in the frame and you draw or write backwards so that you can feel the drawing/writing when you flip the page.

Post 22 by VioletBlue (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Friday, 19-Feb-2016 12:38:14

I like the sound of those magnetic shapes.

Post 23 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Friday, 19-Feb-2016 18:03:52

I've never seen those magnetic shapes before. Interesting.

Post 24 by Gingy (the musical gingy with the loads of music boxes) on Monday, 22-Feb-2016 3:29:25

Post 25 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 25-Feb-2016 5:14:45

I'm not sure what they are called exactly. I used to have the papers that came with the set but I no longer do now. I looked it up though, and Magnetix, or Geomag, sounds like the set I might have. (I forgot that my set also came with flat squares.)

Post 26 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Thursday, 25-Feb-2016 9:42:25

Even though they used to freak me out, I kind of want to get those gel capsules that grew into foam rubber animals in warm water. NO idea what they're called though. Anyone know? Anyone? Bueler?

If I had the room, I get all sorts of talking and musical toys; I love kids toys; pity they weren't this advanced when I was little.
